Ok, this kicks all sorts of bootie!!!

It's finally summer here in the Upper Penninsula of Mi. It take awhile but by golly, it's here...for the time being. We'll see what next week brings. Who knows, it may snow!!!! Anyways, the Farmer's Market downtown is going strong & each week more & more goods are showing up...which pretty much = one happy gal!!!! I'll have some recipes coming up with some of the yummalicious treats I scored while there.

But this post I wanted to tell you about a new Farm Stand I went to today. Now let me tell you this....it kicked all sorts of bootie!! Ken had told me about it last week on one of his trucking adventures. It's right outside of town so it's not far at all. We Yoopers measure distance in minutes...so roughly 7 minutes out of town, give or take. Holy bean bags!! I thought I was going there to get some blueberries & maybe a watermelon. Lemme tell you, this stand was stocked with fabulous goodies & I took it upon myself to stock up. Oh, almost forgot to mention...the prices were out-freaking-standing. Where else can you buy 2 pineapples for 5 buckaroos? Well besides Mexico. Ok, so back to what I got...here's a picture & a list...cuz I know you wanna know ;) ps...I am fully aware that my kitchen needs an update...but c'mon, that yellow counter-top rocks...you know it does.

1/2lb garlic which was 2 heads

3 1/2lb pickling cukes

1 papaya (never had real papaya...just flavored drinks)

3 1/2lb pears which was 9 fruits

2pts of blueberries

1 1/2lb sweet cherries

2 green peppers

3 kiwi

2 big cukes

2lb bananas & then the gal GAVE me 8lb FREE because they had a couple tiny brown spots. Chloe (the tortoise ) is going to be one happy reptile =) Then I'm pretty sure we'll have banana bread, muffins, pancakes up the ying yang for awhile...which totally rocks my sox!!! (p.s. I do the sox thing on purpose...it's for my Red Sox...heeehee)

An 8lb seedless watermelon

2 pineapples

4 zucchini's

6 lemons

a honeydew melon

5 limes

3 1/2lbs tomatoes (ours are not ripe yet so this will tide us over)

6 Granny Smith Apples

6 Golden Delicious Apples

10 ears of corn

3 1/2lbs baby reds

Whew...that's a lot of stuff eh!!! All for a very reasonable price mind you!! What will I do with all this in our household of 2 you might wonder??? Pickles, jams, waffles, breads, salsa, stewed tomatoes, juice, pie or tort, muffins, roasting, grilling, smoothies & canning are in this gals very near future!!

Thankful Thursday

I have been so excited all day to post my Thankful Thursday post. Well, it's now officially Thursday so here goes.

I have been feeling rather swell this week! That my friends rocks my socks out loud! Knock on wood, so far this week I have no major attacks & the bathroom has NOT been my best friend!! With feeling this swell I have been able to acomplish oodles of things around the house. I kinda sorta feel like the old me!! I hope it lasts...

I very seldom call people who I don't talk to on a regular basis. The reason one may wonder is because I am not used to their voices & get tired of asking them to repeat themselves. On yucky blucky MM days I do not talk on the phone. My ears don't allow me to understand. So having such wunnaful days is a HUGE thing for me. Anyways, seeing I was having such a swell day I decided to surprise my friend Jewel with a phone call. She lives in Indiana & I have not seen her since we graduated in 94. We used to be good buds in grade school. I've also only spoke to her one other time on the phone since then. So actually speaking to her was pretty ultra fabulous!!!

I also phoned my friend Kristin tonight. This like, never happens. Krissy only lives in Gladstone but it seems we never see each other. I plan on popping into her work for a surprise visit soon. She's a beautician so I'm thinkin she could perform some miracles with my crazy hair!!

I also visited our local Farmers market today & picked up some corn stalks for decorating the front yard & porch, 15 bartlett pears & two large bags of assorted apples. I brought one bag to my real dads house. Oh, and a gynormous pumpkin!! I'm totally stoked to use my Mom's fun applesauce making gadget again!

After chit chatting with Krissy I chit chatted online with my cousin Mandy who lives in Seattle. We got to talking more & more. My fingers were getting tired from typing so I gave her a jingle as well. I haven't talked to her in eons. So catching up via phone was awesome!! While chit chatting with her Ken called. Even he was amused at my chatty Kathy skills tonight.

One more thing...if I may...game 1, Red Sox , post season, Papelbon pitching, bottom of the 9th, BOSOX leading 4 to 1...BAM! SHAZAM! COWABUNGA DUDE!!!! BOSOX win game 1!!! SHAAAAWING!!!

I know this post is rather blah. The hugest thing is I feel fabulous & it's allowing me to do so many things!!! Including being a major telephone hog, staying up half the night watching a baseball game & just feeling peachy!! And guess what? That rocks my SOX!!

Farmer's Market is Booming

Today was the Farmer's Market. I had been busy most of the day making applesauce and preparing & freezing green beans so I wasn't sure if I'd have time to make it to my most favoritist Wednesday event. Well, I finished just in time & made it there in time!!! YAHOOOO!!!

Our Farmer's Market is BOOMING with bountiful crops. I bought a bushel of peaches. Part will be canned & I will make 1 batch of spiced peach jam for the hubby. I have never canned peaches before but I've had home canned peaches & actually luv em. Those canned peaches from the store make me feel like I'm chewing on a booger...not that I have ever done that. But still. It's gross. So this year I'll whip up some canned peaches & see how we like them. If they turn out well I am certain I will be purchasing more next week. I also got 2 large zucchini's for $.50!! What a bargain! A bunch of carrots, a handful of red potatoes, a bouquet of Gladiolas, & a whole bag of canning tomatoes for $2 & one of those yellow watermelons.

Now if that doesn't rock one's socks I don't know what will!!!
