Lunch with the ladies

Ya know, I have some really awesome friends!! This past week a group of us ladies went to lunch at the deli.

I met my girlfriend Shelli from my fab friend, Gwen about 14yrs ago. I can't even begin to tell you what a blessing Shelli has been. Shelli has been asking me to join the ladies for some time now. She knows about my Meniere's Disease crappolla & knew how horrified I was about the possibility of losing all of my hearing. She introduced me to these fabulous ladies & it's been great!! Btw, these fabulous gals just happen to be hoh themselves. I've known Patty (the woman next to me) for most of my life and Kathy (the one in purple) is Ken's aunt's aunt. Glenda (the one in lime) goes to my Church and grew up in north town too. Small world right?

Shelli, Glenda, myself & Kathy

Nothing beats great friends, great food, great conversation all topped off with oodles of laughs!!

New Handbag!!

I have had my eye on this for well over a month now!! A local gal makes these out of refurbished blazers and woolen sweaters. Each time I went to the Deli I'd eye it up but would never pay the price. Now, fast forward to this past Thursday. I had an appointment to get my nails done. (No, I do not splurge on this normally... but was given a gift certificate from my hubby) After my appointment with my fab friend Kellie, we went to the deli for lunch. I decided I would treat her. We looked at the handmade items for sale & out of nowhere she decided to buy this for me!! I cannot even thank her enough. It fits everything I need in it & also looks amazing =) I never thought I'd get so darn tootan stoked about getting a new handbag!!! I'm one lucky gal!!!

Seriously?

Ugh, you have got to be kidding me!!! Last night while toolin around on Facebook talking among friends I learned that yet another friend passed away. =( Seriously? He was 31, with a loving wife & small children. With all the modern technology and whatnot you'd think we'd have a cure for cancer by now!!!

First it was Amy and now Josh...I'd be lying if I said I wasn't mad. Actually I'm downright pissed off. This really tests my faith and beliefs...or what little of it I still have. Some things I will never understand.

One thing I know...two wonderful, amazing people leave behind families, friends, children and a world that sooo loved them and wasn't ready to see them go. May their family find peace in their passing. RIP Josh...

A Special Phone Call

When I got up this morning I checked my email from my cell phone & saw that I had a mssg from my swell friend Shashi. It had said that she tried to call me!!! I was so sad I missed her call as I was on the road with Ken. Ok, for most people this would be no big deal to recieve a phone call from their friend right? This phone call meant she could hear again!! Now folks, that rocks my socks!!!

I "met" Shash on Myspace in a MM group 2, maybe 3yrs ago and we've been friends ever since. Man, I couldn't even put into words how much she has influenced my life. She really has. I know I'm a strong person but when I just started dealing with all the not so fun things of MM I was pretty down & out. I refrained from doing things with friends & family. I was flippen scared out of my mind too. I felt alone, even though I have an amazing out of this galaxy husband. But even still, he didn't truly understand what I was feeling...but Shash did. At first we discussed MM crappolla & not long after we started talking about pastimes, our hubby's, family & what not. We found we have way more in common than the MM junk & it became less & less of a topic in our emails. She's been my friend through 3 failed adoptions with my husband & I, the birth of their son, birthdays, holidays, Red Sox winning the World Series (her hubby is a Yanks fan), the many cute things of their son, the love of crafting, she has made me fabulous jewelry, we share Dr appointment stuff & research...but yet we have never met in person. It's on my hope to do list!!!

A year & a half ago was the last time I spoke to her on the phone. That was when she got new "doo daddles" & man, we talked for hours. Then her hearing took a crap & her doo daddles did too...until today!!! She got a new dooo daddle (hearing aid) and is able to use the phone again!! Sooo super cool! I'm such a shmo, I got all teary eyed. But this is a real big thing, her being able to hear. I'm just sooo stoked for her & yes, it was sooo nice to be able to talk to my friend. She will be going to MN again for another fitting & Ken mentioned we'll have to take a ride to go meet her!!! Now how much do you think my Socks would be rocked if we went to meet her!!! Let's just say A LOT!!! I just had to share this ultra fabulous news about my ultra fantabulastic friend Shashica!!!!

It's Crunch Time

I grabbed the bag of pinecones we picjed at Ken's Nana's in Massachusetts, grabbed the peanut butter & a bag of birdseed....
spread peanut butter on the pinecone...

rolled the gooey-ness in birdseed....

And hung them outside on the lilac tree for our feathered friends....now hopefully we don't get pidgeons!!!!!!

This is the afghan I completed the other night. It's for our friend Janet...who happens to be his dispatcher.
There are still projects needing to be finished, including the cards & packages that need to be mailed!!! Christmas will be here before we know it. It's crunch time my friends!!

What is on your Christmas List

A Different Kind of Wish List

Ya know…I'm actually a deep thinker. It would come as a surprise to many. Especially the ones who only know the goofy, loud, in your face, obnoxious Kathy.

Tonight I surprised my sweellacious friend Jewel a phone call. Her & her hubbykins are having another baby. They already have one perfect lil guy & this new blessing will be absolutely perfect! We talked for a good hour & a half. Talking about the upcoming babykins, our hubby's, grade school days, economy, religion, numerous other things & Christmas. Of course we spoke of Christmas!!! You can't talk to me this time of year & NOT have Christmas come up in conversation.

We spoke of gifts & what we'd like. Neither of us had "things" on our list. I think she was surprised when I told her what I "wanted" She said. "Your favorite holiday is Christmas & you don't want presents?" I'm not going to lie. I do like receiving gifts…but I don't expect them. Then I thought about my fantastical friend Brandy who instills giving to others in her children. She totally wrote a blog about it…made me tear up…cuz I'm an emo like that.

I went on to tell Jewel I'd love to have a new bookcase. I actually need one for my upteen books. There is no possibility of throwing books out either. I can read a book several times. Books rock my world. They are my "nic nacs" I'd also like jammies. I get them every year. The selfish side of me would be sad if I didn't get jammies on Christmas Eve. My Mom always gave me jammies then. But seriously, that's all I really want. Sure there are things that I think would be nice to have….but are they necessary???

It's been a few hours since my phone call with Jewel & this is what I've compiled on my Wish List:

To be surrounded by my family & friends

When my 15yr old brother gives me a hug & tells me he loves me always rocks my socks. What 15yr olds do that?

To see my nieces & nephews & see Christmas through their eyes

To host a game night with friends

A sledding, hot cocoa, yummy treat eating bonanza

To revisit fading memories of my Mom & Dad. It's been 23yrs since I've had a Christmas with Mom. Dad's 23rd anniversary is next month. Even though he was alive for the Christmas after Mom passed he was not "there" The memories fade as the days go by…but every now & then there's a reminder & it all comes back…it's those moments I cherish this time of year.

And there is one more…It's what I wish the most….I wish this every year….I would absolutely love, more like it would be a dream come true if I could meet the police officer who saved my life when I was 5 days old. There is no police record of it happening. It was August 30, 1975 & the Mayor of Manistique hit us head on. This officer gave me CPR & brought me back…and for that I am eternally grateful. I have experienced a lot of pain, went through my fair share of not too swell times. But you know what? I have had the best times too!! I had the opportunity to have loving parents, oodles upon oodles of siblings, nieces & nephews, cousins, aunts & uncles, friends & my one & only hubby Ken. I have seen the states, waded in the ocean, climbed small mountains out west, walked on the Great Salt Lake when the water was evaporated. I have gone camping & ran with my dogs. I have seen sunsets that have made me cry…for real. I have seen Eagles fly & heard train horns, I have had the privilege of being pregnant, if only for a short time by the most amazing man that exists, I have had the grief of losing ones I love. Those losses have taught me to love deeply & not take life for granted & to be humble & compassionate. I have been abused by an old man…it taught strength & to appreciate my body. I have laughed till I cried & cried till I laughed. I have witnessed the birth of my niece…the miracle of life…even though I am unable. I have had the amazing opportunity to meet new people & learn to crochet. I have felt kittens kick in my cats belly…something I would never experience in my own, I have been blessed with amazing in-laws who love my punk ass. I have ridden my bike in a rain flooded Sheridan Road, I have experienced the coughs & gags of smoking that 1st cigarette, I have laid on a blanket staring in the sky wishing upon stars to one day meet this man… so much has been experienced….. All this because a man, a hero decided a 5 day old baby was worth saving. It's the least I could do to give him a proper thank you…and even then, it's not enough. So yeah….meeting this man is always on my Christmas wish list and my birthday list. This one man has given me so many gifts that no Christmas gift could ever hold a candle to….

What's on your wish list this year???

She's a Gemtastical Gal!!

Ya know what??? I have the most amazing friends a gal could ever want!! Seriously! I already have an out of this galaxy butt kickin hubby, a funtastical, a bit out of the "norm" but awesome family & then I am blessed with these wunnaful friends...who are what I call an extention of my family!!

Tonight I made a phone call to my swellacious grade school friend, Jewel. I had to congratulate her & her hubbykins. They are having another baby!!! =) Now let me tell you about this friend.

First I give you some definitions of the word Jewel.... Definition: a person who is brilliant and precious as a piece of jewelry

definition 2: a precious stone : a gem

and definition 3: One heck of a great Mom, wife & precious friend!!

I think we talked for well over an hour. Talking about their son, baby #2, our hubby's, Christmas & oodles of other miscellaneous things. I have to say by reading her blog, and talking with her she kicks all sorts of butt in the Mommy department! I told her she & her hubby should write a book on parenting! How they are raising their son is how I always imagined my childhood would be. Anytootles...I just know they will be amazing parents to their upcoming blessing!!! Now wouldn't it be super neato if they go to their next ultrasound & find two lil blessings in her tummy???? =)

Transformationalizing

So, the day is almost done...I accomplished quite a bit in the house today & got my behind out of the house to pic up our pictures for the cards & then went shoppin for some odds & ends.

One more Christmas gift is bought!! We are both sooo clueless when it comes to ken's uncle...and we have his name for Christmas. I scoured the Lions sh** with disgust & couldn't bring myself to purchasing such poop. Soooo I figured I'd let the kenster figure out what to get him...it's his uncle...heeeheee. Well standing in line at the checkout was taking forever & a day & that's when I spotted it....GIFT CARDS!!!!!! Yup, I totally went the easy route & got a gift card. Is that bad? I know Ken will say that's bad. But then again it's not like he puts any effort into buying gifts. And really, who wouldn't want a gift card? I know I think they are dandy things. Fingers crossed his uncle likes it.....

I also decided in order de funktify I need a change....in the form of a hair color. I've had it my natural dark brown for months now & honestly, the Kester isn't too snitz on it. LOL It's the reason I kept it for so long. ;) But today I picked up a handy dandy light brown with highlights & am all ready for my outwardly transformations. I should have bought a new over shoulder boulder holder too to spruce up the girls. I planned on zip zappin (waxin) my eyebrows & doing my nails all snowflakey too but that will wait till after the hairdo.

I just totally ordered the gift I am giving for my family gift exchange!!! I'm superly duperly stoked!! We play this super fun game & the gift changes hands...yeah, I can't explain it but it's pretty darn fruitan funtastic! I wouldn't be sad if my gift ended up in my hands. I have a few ideas for our other gift for the exchange but want to have ken put some effort into it too. I'm guessing I'll be left figuring it out. I also bought some yarn...and it's not even for me!! Yup, imagine that my friends!! My brother & sister have been on crocheting safari's every night & so, they will be getting yarn for Christmas!!!

We nixed the idea of putting a real tree on the porch & decorating it with birdseed drenched pinecones & cranberry & popcorn garlands...too many darn tootan pigeons!!! Now, I know they have to eat but I'll be darn tooted if I'm gonna turn out like the crazy bird lady!!! Plus to cut down a tree just for that kinda makes me sad for some unknown reason. Now watch, I'll have some r-tarded dream about a tree screaming as I slowly kill it....

Anyfartles....I'm workin on the de-funktifying still & I have ta thank my swellacious friends for their support & for the laughs!!! You know I luv your punk butts to the moon!!!!!! xoxoxox

Gary & Quirky Crocheting

We went to the Gary Alan concert Saturday night...Great show I might say!!!
Today friends of ours Pat & Sam & 2 of their boys came over to visit. The boys flocked into the den to play video games while Sam & I crocheted. Sooo, I made a couple quirky things.

A fish toy with catnip for the kitties

and a fun lil basket crocheted out of strips of fabric. I'll be putting stuff inside it & I'm sure it'll make more sense & look not so sad.
That pretty much sums up our weekend. Well I left out the decorating of the outside of the house & different house cleaning things we did. We've got a busy week ahead of us!!! Off to make some cookies now & snuggle with the hubbykins =)

Seize The Moment!!

Will You Dance With Me? READ THIS VERY SLOWLY.... IT'S PRETTY PROFOUND.

Too many people put off something that brings them joy just because they haven't thought about it, don't have it on their schedule, didn't know it was coming or are too rigid to de part from their routine.

I got to thinking one day about all those women on the Titanic who passed up dessert at dinner that fateful night in an effort to cut back. From then on, I've tried to be a little more flexible.

How many women out there will eat at home because their husband didn't suggest going out to dinner until after something had been thawed? Does the word 'refrigeration' mean nothing to you?

How often have your kids dropped in to talk and sat in silence while you watched 'Jeopardy' on television?

I cannot count the times I called my sister and said, 'How about going to lunch in a half hour?'

She would gas up and stammer, 'I can't. I have clothes on the line. My hair is dirty. I wish I had known yesterday, I had a late breakfast, It looks like rain.' And my personal favorite: 'It's Monday.' She died a few years ago. We never did have lunch together.

Because Americans cram so much into their lives, we tend to schedule our headaches. We live on a sparse diet of promises we make to ourselves when all the conditions are perfect!

We'll go back and visit the grandparents when we get Steve toilet-trained.

We'll entertain when we replace the living-room carpet...

We'll go on a second honeymoon when we get two more kids out of college.Life has a way of accelerating as we get older. The days get shorter, and the list of promises to ourselves gets longer. One morning, we awaken, and all we have to show for our lives is a litany of 'I'm going to,' 'I plan on,' and 'Someday, when things are settled down a bit.'

When anyone calls my 'seize the moment' friend, she is open to adventure and available for trips. She keeps an open mind on new ideas. Her enthusiasm for life is contagious. You talk with her for five minutes, and you're ready to trade your bad feet for a pair of Roller blades and skip an elevator for a bungee cord..

My lips have not touched ice cream in 10 years. I love ice cream. It's just that I might as well apply it directly to my stomach with a spatula and eliminate the digestive process The other day, I stopped the car and bought a triple-Decker. If my car had hit an iceberg on the way home, I would have died happy.

Now...go on and have a nice day. Do something you WANT to......not something on your SHOULD DO list. If you were going to die soon and had only one phone call you could make, who would you call and what would you say? And why are you waiting? Make sure you read this to the end; you will understand why I sent this to you.

Have you ever watched kids playing on a merry go round or listened to the rain lapping on the ground? Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight or gazed at the sun into the fading night? Do you run through each day on the fly? When you ask ' How are you?' Do you hear the reply? When the day is done, do you lie in your bed with the next hundred chores running through your head? Ever told your child, 'We'll do it tomorrow.' And in your haste, not see his sorrow? Ever lost touch? Let a good friendship die? Just call to say 'Hi?

When you worry and hurry through your day, it is like an unopened gift....Thrown away..... Life is not a race Take it slower. Hear the music before the song is over.

It's National Friendship Week.. Show your friends how much you care. I cherish our friendship and appreciate all you do. 'Life may not be the party we hoped for... but while we are here we might as well dance!

The Magic Of The Season

It's no secret Christmas is my favorite Holiday. I sleep, eat & breath Christmas through the year....for serious!! It seems people get caught up in the hustle bustle of Corporate Christmas though...and that saddens me. Don't get me wrong, I love to shop sometimes. I guess I don't like the "greed" that Christmas brings out in people.

Last night while watching Christmas Movies & munchin on candy canes I was thinking about what it is for me that truly makes my Christmas.

It's the snow, the carols, the lights, the trees, the hot apple cider, the looks on the kids faces, the friendships & family, the gatherings, the magic of it all. I'm 33yrs old & yes, I still find Christmas magical!!!

My family used to go on sleigh rides years ago. I miss that. We'd go to these fantastic Ice Caves in the Trenary area. My brother was stationed at a church there. I dunno if stationed is the proper word to use there....he's a Priest. Anyways....Ken & I go to Christmas In The Village every year. There is this absolutely stunning old time village at the Fair Grounds. It's awesome!! You can take a horse drawn sleigh ride through the grounds, buy hot cocoa & cider & cookies from the bakery, handmade candles, wreaths, enjoy music in the center, bonfires. Oh it's just fantastic!!! It's one of my favorite events to attend!! Especially at night!!! Brings out that magicness I was talkin about. Our City now does their Christmas Parade at night. This year I am definitely going!! Last year I was sick!!! =(

This Friday some friends are coming over to watch movies, make cards & share our Christmas spirit with one another!!! Total stokage!! It's my hope to spread Yuletide Joy to as many people as possible!!! Not everybody is as nutty as me...but perhaps some of my love for Christmas & the season could rub off on someone =) I'm interested in hearing your favorite things of the Christmas season.

Weekend Madness

Ahhh another busy weekend! Ken got home late Friday night & we found ourselves leaving the house at 11:30 pm & heading to Perkins for our friend Chad's 30th birthday. I told Ken he could drink & I would drive. We never drink & drive...actually we really never drink. But it was Chad birthday so a few celebratory drinks would be fun. Well Ken decided not to drink so Nikki & I decided to try some apple pie shots...well after 4 I was a whipper snappin holly jolly gal!! It was totally fun though.

Shaney baney bo baney, myself & Ken

No clue what Ken had the giggles for. But Shane & I did a shot in celebratory fashion =)

Chaddy Chad the birthday boy & myself

Saturday we watched my lil brother Jess & Miss Madison for a few hours while Jim & Donna attended Donna's cousins funeral. JJ also came over & spent the night. Ken & his dad installed a new motion light on the front porch & a new dusk to dawn light on the garage in the back. No more loud buzzing bulb!!! Yahooo!!!! Serious, it sounded as if a swarm of bees or wasps were lodged in the old light. This one is energy efficient too =) Wonder what our electric bill will be next month. I'm actually excited to see it!!! We watched a couple movies before the Kenster & JJ vanished to the den to do some XBOX 360 gamin. Ahhh gotta love gamer geeks!!

On Sunday we put a turkey breast in the crockpot with some broth & picked Jesse & Maddy up & took them up to Ken's family's camp for his cousin Andy's 10th birthday party. Total funness!! The kids were fabulous & such fun. After we dropped them off it was time to come home & veg out in our fluffy clothes & watch the Packer game & the race. We were both tired & dozed on & off. Totally uncool for me!! I slept through part of the race!! By dinner time our turkey was finished. Oh we also added some veggies & had a yummalish turkey noodle (nuunuu as my niece calls it) soup, watched Extreme Makeover Home Edition, Family Guy (Ken's show) & American Dad (another one of Ken's shows) & then we watched Mr Magoriums Wonder Emporium. I suggest you watch that!! Totally magical & whimsical!! I'm almost finished with Logan's (my friend Shash's son's) afghan. There's still so much I have to do & make in time for Christmas. Speaking of Christmas...bathroom is decorated now with lights & pine garland, and a lil tree, village is up on the tv & end stands. My home is still a mess though & in need of some serious attention!!! I wonder if it would be animal abuse if I put some dusting cloths on my dogs feet & had them walk on the tables....hmmm Arizona is an Alaskan husky...perhaps we could have her pull the vacuum around!!! Ok, lots ta do & only a short time to do it!! Happy Monday =)

Buster Brown snugglin with ken while we watched a movie. I just love this pic. =)

The Christmas Village

Only 45 more days till Christmas!!!! =)

Random Filth

Tonight I did something I never thought I'd do...I went to a movie by myself!! Of course Ken is on the road. And face it, Nights in Rodanthe is not his cup of tea. But I so badly wanted to see it. I decided this morning I would try to go today. I say try because I felt like donkey doo today. Not that I know what a donkey doo feels like mind you. I contemplated calling my gal pals & setting up a gals night. Which would have been out of this galaxy fun!! But then I thought, hmm most of my gal pals work or have babies...something I do not have...I have oodles upon oodles of guy friends but seriously, who would be game for going to see that movie? Not any that I know of. So, I waited the dizzies out today & finally decided at 5:30 I'd be bop to the theater. I have to admit, it wasn't all that bad. Being by myself I mean. I'm always by myself anyways. The movie was great!!

I've been thinking a lot lately. I have feelings of being inadquate, like I NEED to be doing more. I have no babies so why is it I don't "work". Sure, I do the paperwork for ownign our semi. But my brain is so much more capable of doing other things. I love to bake but I can only be Betty effin Crocker so much. Our waist lines show the outcomes. I've been doing a lot of reading. Which reminds me...Lauren, if you're reading this I am waiting for another post!! Yesterday I made a damn sock monkey. Never made one before so I thought, what the heck? Anyways, I'm wanting to do something, feel like I am making a difference, a contribution. At the same time I also want to be able to go on the road with Ken. With the unpredictability of my MM it would make it extremely hard to hold a "normal job" But I need to do something & I have some ideas.
I took this silly quiz the other day...for heck's sake. It was sumthin about How Old Your real self is...sumthin along those lines. Anyways, mine actually came out to be 34!! In a way it surprised me & in a way it didn't. I'm not one for huge parties & complete chaos. I enjoy having order, but at the same time I am extremely spontaneous. Does that make any sense? I've always thought that I have an old soul.

Last night while making the sock monkey I got all cranky, like piturbed with someone. This November is 2yrs ago my nephew was born. My sister adopted him...we were supposed to. Why is this bugging me? Is it because we allowed ourselves to put our heart out there for Maddy...only to get them crushed? But at the same time I know it wasn't meant to be. With Maddy I mean. We are content with it being just us for the rest of our life & have dismissed all hopes on having a baby & see the good side of not having a kiddo. But then it still hurts... I guess the hurt never truly goes away...

In just a couple weeks I will start putting up our Christmas decorations & our handful of trees. For some reason I'm not all super stoked. Is it that I'm getting old? It's like I am where I was 2yrs ago. After the whole nephew ordeal. Not wanting to give a rats arse about Christmas. It's rather bizarre.

I was recently invited to a Christmas party by my friend Shelli. She's amazing! But I'm not sure if I should go. It's for the deaf/HOH club in Esky. I met her through my fabulous friend Gwen eons ago. Gwen had told her about me & my Meniere's crap. Losing your hearing from MM is not uncommon, pretty much a given. It's not something I've truly accepted yet. But these folks have & want me to join them. I have not used sign language in years so it's pretty rusty. I fear I won't be able to communicate or that I won't "fit in" I asked Ken what I should do about this. Bless his heart. He's amazing. He knows I have issues with dealing with the inevitable...perhaps attending this party would make me realize & begin to accept that if MM takes my hearing , life would still have meaning & I would still have friends. Not saying life wouldn't have meaning otherwise. I just don't know!!! So sorry for babbling here. But I haven't done it in awhile.

Onto other things...my thoughts on the upcoming World Series...Go Phillies!!! I have to admit my Bosox were not playing to their abilities in the beginning of the ALCS. It sure is odd sitting here, not watching a baseball game.

There's just too much on my mind right now. Think I'll take a bubble bath to relax, turn on some Korn to relieve stress, have a glass of wine & make sock monkey's to be quirky!!!

Total Sock Rockage!!!

Oh my heckles!!! Today when I came home from running errands I noticed a manilla envelope in my mailbox. I had kinda forgot my swellacious friend Jewel said she was sending "something" I rushed into the house, didn't even bother letting the doggies outside, set up the camera & put it to video mode. Jewel mentioned I should video myself opening it because she'd love to see my reaction. I assure you, I did video myself. I've been trying to upload the video for the past half an hour. It keeps saying it's corrupt! GAHHH!

So, anytootles...I first felt the package, wondering, trying to guess what it could be. I'd never had guess what the contents were. What was in the package was something that rocked my socks out loud, louder than they have ever been rocked before! Like this is a HUGEMUNGUS thing!!!

Now, most people know I love quirky random socks. They also know I have this deep interest/infatuation with the Amish. When you combine those two things you get.....

Now if this isn't the pure empitomy of sexiness I dunno what is!! I don't normally put my feet on the table but these socks rock my world so much I had to showcase em off while on my tootsies.
Thank you soooo much Jewel! You friggen rock my socks hard core Amish style!!! I can't even WAIT to show Kenster when he gets home!! We will be leaving tonight to head to Massachusetts. Which means, we will be traveling through parts of PA...AMISH country!! I shall wear these for good luck. In hopes we see oodles upon oodles of Amish Farms along our journey. Thank you sooo much for these rockan socks!! I luv you oodles!!!
